Analyze the Impact Resistance of Low-Density Plastic Films with Free-Falling Dart

Free-falling dart impact test is a traditional way used to measure the impact resistance strength or actual density of the plastic or polyethylene films. This test uses a single dart configuration which is dropped from a determined standardized height, whereas the weights of the dart can be varied as per the specification of the sample. The free-falling dart test is performed on the samples for quality evaluation and quality control and also for end use comparisons in research centers. The test can be performed with the highly standardized testing instrument i.e. Dart Impact tester

The testing devices help to determine the actual energy that causes Polyethylene films to fail under some determined condition due to the effect of the free-falling dart. The energy is expressed in terms of mass of the dart which is dropped from a specific height and results in more than or equivalent to 50% of sample failure. The Dart Impact Tester comprises of a hemispherical dart with a diameter of 38mm and 51mm and can be dropped from two standardized heights i.e. 660mm and 1550mm respectively (as suggested in Test method A & Test Method B according to ASTM D1709).

Presto Stantest one of the renowned manufacturers in the world of testing instruments. To test the sample using Dart Impact Tester, the sample is clamped pneumatically on the base plate on the provided sample placement area. The samples are then impacted after determining the starting point and weight of the dart. After the dart is released, the sample is examined visually for Pass/Fail test. The instrument is designed as per standards IS 2508:1984(R2003) and ASTM D1709-16A.

Test the Ability of Material to Resist Breaking under Tensile Stress

Testing the ability of different types of materials under tensile stress is one of the major things which are done to ascertain the properties of the materials that are used in structural applications. The force per unit area i.e. Mpa or psi is required to provide stress to the material is ultimately known as the tensile strength of the material. The rate at which a sample is pulled apart from both the ends with the speed of 0.2 to 20 inches per minute is known as the Ultimate Tensile Strength or Tensile Strength at Break. The test is performed appropriately with the help of testing machine known as a tensile testing machine. The machines are designed as per the standard ISO 527 & ASTM D638 that helps in offering good and precise test results in the material selection process. The tensile test using high-quality of the tensile testing machine can be performed on various materials such as polymer films, elastomers, plastics, rubbers, textile, and many more. The instrument helps to calculate various properties of the material such as tensile elongation, a tensile modulus of elasticity, and many more.

Tensile Elongation
The elongation of engineered material is calculated with the percentage increase in length before it breaks under a high amount of tension. The elongation values are common for elastomers and packaging polyolefin, packaging films and rigid plastic materials. The material with high tensile strength and high elongation strength means very tough material with high strength.

All the values can be tested using tensile testing machine. Presto Stantest offers a wide array of testing instruments that are used by the manufacturers for a large number of applications. To check the entire range of machines, visit: www.testing-instruments.com

Provide Stronger Laminated Packages To Customers With Peel Strength Test

The peel strength of the laminates used in different industries is a very important aspect that affects the efficiency of the laminates in the application where they are used.  The laminates are prepared by joining two or more layers of different materials with different properties. For example in the packaging industries, the laminates are prepared for manufacturing multilayered packaging. To ensure that the laminates stay at their place, it is essential that they have appropriate peel adhesion strength. In order to ensure the best strength, the peel strength test is conducted on the laminates. The test is commenced with the help of a peel strength tester.

In the peel strength test, a sample is taken and the adhesive portion of the laminate is delaminated from one end. Once delaminated, one end of the specimen is placed in one member of the grip and the second end is placed in the second member of the grip. After that, the grips are taken apart. This applies a tensile force on the specimen causing it to peel. The force applied to the specimen is recorded in the load indicator.  This force applied to the specimen gives the peel strength of the specimen.

Ensuring The Best Quality And Integrity Of Packaging Products With Leakage Testing

The products that are manufactured in different industries are packaged in some type of packaging. These packaging’s need to be of best quality and integrity and must be perfectly leakage free. The manufacturers need to ensure that their products will remain safe in the packaging materials that they are using for their products. It is essential to ensure that the packaging materials are capable of providing the best level of safety to the products. Mainly the plastic pouches and PET bottles are used for packaging of the product. These packaging materials must be free from any type of leakage or pin holes that may cause any adulteration of the product inside. The manufacturers must test the integrity of the packaging with proper methods such as vacuum leak tester.

A majorly used method of testing the integrity of the packaging method is through vacuum leak test. The vacuum leak test uses a high value of vacuum to analyze the leakage in a given sample. For the plastic pouches, there is a desiccator used in which there is vacuum developed. The specimen is placed in the desiccator. When the vacuum is developed, the sample is either compressed, or there is no compression in the test sample. In a plastic pouch, when there is a leakage in the sample, then it will be compressed whereas in the PET bottles, if there is no leakage, then the sample will be compressed. With the help of this test method, one can easily determine the presence of any type of pin holes or any other leakage present in the packaging.

Presto’s Vacuum Leak Tester is one of the best instruments that have been used for testing the integrity of the packaging products such as tetra packs, PET bottles, Plastic bags, pouches, etc.

Brief Knowledge About DIN and ISO

Technical rules and regulations based on specific terms are referred as standardization. These technical rules are used by most of the industries. The DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V., German Institute for Standardization) is based in Berlin and administers about 29,500 DIN standards. The DIN updates the valid standards and has about 1,745 members relating to the different sectors of industry, science and services. There are more than 26,278 experts work for DIN, and the standards are developed by the working groups. Standards are drafted and availed for all the interested parties which are then published as valid standards.

The international standards are used in place of national standards to abridge the international movements of goods and to eliminate trade barriers. Thus, the quality standard is standardized at a great level for the movement of products in worldwide.

ISO is the "International Organization for Standardization" based in Geneva. The standardization is based on an international level, with more than 157 countries are members of the organization. All work results are published under the name of "ISO".

Many ISO standards are adopted as European standards, and there is acquired as the status of a DIN standard (DIN EN ISO), whereas some ISO standards are directly adopted as DIN standards (DIN ISO).

There are several standards such as ISO for international standard, DIN for German national standard, DIN ISO for German edition of an unaltered ISO standard, EN for European standard, EN ISO for European version of unchanged ISO standard, DIN EN for German edition of a European Standard, and DIN EN ISO for German edition of an EN ISO standard.

Test The Resistance Of Polymers To Environmental Stress Cracking

Stress cracking is the major problem that is experienced by polymers when they are subjected to different environmental conditions. The environmental factors like rain, sunlight, air result in the crazing in the polymers and when this get combined with the mechanical stress, the polymers experience cracks on the surface of the material and many similar issues. This is known as environmental stress cracking. It is quite different from the polymer degradation as it does not affect the strength of the polymeric chains. Due to these cracks, the quality of the material gets affected.  Environmental stress cracking is a major issue especially in the case of the amorphous polymers as compared to that of semi-crystalline and crystalline polymers.

How can the effect of ESC on Polymers be studied?

It is quite impossible to explore the impact of ESC on the polymers by creating different environment but the behavior of the polymers under different environmental conditions can be studied on the basis of the roughness of the surface, molecular structure, chemical bonding, the crystalline structure of the polymers, etc. One of the theories of the environmental stress explains that the liquid in the form of rain or acid on the polymeric material can hamper the quality of the polymers and creates cracks on the facade of the material. The cracking of the material due to environmental stress can be a major threat to safety. Therefore, it is necessary to test the effect of ESC on the polymers before using it for any particular application.

ESCR Tester – To Judge the Effect of Environmental Conditions on Polymers

Presto designs and manufactures premium quality of Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance Tester. The instrument is intended to test the resistance of the polymers to environmental stress cracking by replicating the real environmental conditions. The instrument offers highly accurate test results.

The manufacturers in different production units usually consider material testing as the last step which is irrelevant. The quality testing the essential phase in all production houses that must be commenced from very first stage i.e. raw material inspection till it reaches the hands of the customers because the quality of the manufactured goods depends on the material as well as on the production process. For example, if the quality of the raw material which is used for the production process is not up to the mark, then the quality of the end product will definitely get affected, and the efforts to produce that product will be of no use. This wastes not only the time but also the cost and efforts. Therefore, to ensure the quality of the final good, it is necessary to ensure to commence the quality check process from the initial stage of manufacturing so that the strength, quality and other properties of the products can be determined efficiently.

How to test the quality of the products?

The quality of the products can be tested easily with the help of Laboratory Testing Equipments. These equipments offer the modern way to analyze the mechanical properties, behavior, and quality of the materials. Test The Resistance Of Rubbers To Crack Efficiently

Rubbers are used in numerous applications to produce a different type of rubber products. Rubber components have the ability to bear frequent flexing without initiating the cracks as they are highly elastic in nature. The flexing property of the rubber is quite important to judge mainly when a manufacturer needs to use such kind of products in different circumstances where they have to tolerate continuous flexural forces. The De-Mattia Flex Tester is the best and widely used testing machine which is used to measure the resistance of rubber products to cracks which are initiated on the materials either by bending or by extending the sample under different conditions. The testing device is provided to measure the crack formation in rubber when placed under continuous flexing conditions.

Best Method Introduced by Presto for Rubber Testing

Presto Stantest, a foremost manufacturer of rubber testing machine, offers high quality of De-Mattia Flex tester to test the quality and strength of the rubbers. The testing machine produces continuous flexing with a particular condition of mode, degree and speed of flexing in the testing laboratories on a sample of the rubber.

How can the De-Mattia Flex Tester be operated?

The testing instrument provides full-fledged information regarding the resistance of the vulcanized rubbers to cracking when placed under repeated flexing. The cracks in the samples are developed on the rubbers where the stress is applied on the materials when they are placed under continuous flexural forces. If the specimen is already cracked from a particular area, more cracks are developed, or the cracks are enhanced in opposite direction. The testing machine is used to test at least six samples simultaneously. The device is provided with digital control panel and counter that provide highly precise and accurate test results.
